Roger Smith is a watchmaker who lives in the Isle of Man, Scotland. He doesn’t just make watches; he makes works of art. He does it because he enjoys making beautiful watches created from his imagination.
I like what he says:
“The influences just aren’t around, and I can just get on with my days work and just make what I want to make.”
Influence can be powerful when it broadens our understanding and helps us think beyond our current perspective. However, it can be a distraction and lead you away from the work that you love.
Two of my favorite things are hearing how others approach business, and the second is hearing what people enjoy in life.
Doing this broadens my mind beyond my current level of understanding.
Learning and being influenced is a wonderful thing; just don’t do it too much. Leave some room for your core ideas of what you want to create in your business and life.
