There will come a point when you need to hire your first employee for your agency, and unless you came from a previous position where that was your role, you probably don\u2019t know what to do next. And I\u2019m going to guess you\u2019re the latter. That\u2019s okay, you can\u2019t know everything.<\/p>\n

The key? Keep it simple. Here\u2019s a few tips I\u2019ve learned over the years.<\/p>\n

  1. Get Help<\/strong>: Hire someone to help with the process. Their expertise will save you from costly mistakes.<\/li>\n
  2. Know Your Strengths<\/strong>: Focus on what you do best and create a \u201cstop doing\u201d list. That\u2019s your job description.<\/li>\n
  3. Hire Differently<\/strong>: Look for someone with complementary skills, not a clone of yourself.<\/li>\n
  4. Use Tests<\/strong>: Personality tests work\u2014use them to find the right fit.<\/li>\n
  5. Don\u2019t Hire for Likability<\/strong>: Make sure they fit the role, not just your personality.<\/li>\n
  6. Follow the Process<\/strong>: Never skip steps when hiring.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
