To the dollar.

Ask their retention number and watch the pause.

That pause is expensive. Here’s why. Reagan Consulting found that every one percent of personal lines retention is worth up to five percent of revenue over five years.

One point. Five percent. Compounding.

The math works because a kept client isn’t one renewal — it’s a stream. They renew again. They add the home to the auto. They send their brother-in-law. Every year they stay, they’re worth more. When they leave, you don’t lose a policy. You lose the stream — then spend marketing dollars replacing revenue you already had.

And where does all our energy go? The front door. The number we can recite.

Freedom Insurance Group in Oklahoma looked at the back door instead. One experienced VA went into their renewal workflow — the prep, the follow-up, the touches that slip when things get busy. Retention went from 81 to 91.

Ten points. Run that through the Reagan math. That’s not better service. That’s a different company. Their backlog dropped from thirty daily tasks to under ten. Producers got fifteen hours a week back. Cross-sells rose 28% — producers sell more when they’re allowed to sell.

So, honest question: what does your client hear from you between renewals? If the answer is “the renewal notice,” your back door is open.

The fix isn’t heroics. It’s touches on a system — built once in EZLynx Automation Center, firing on every client every year, whether your Tuesday is calm or on fire.

Know your number.
